The management of German radio WDR2 announced that the Europa XXL show due to be held in Duisburg on June 13th has been cancelled. This decision was taken after Gundars Mauševics, bass player of Latvian band Brainstorm, died in a traffic accident.
Brainstorm, had placed third in Project Europa XXL, preceded by Siddharta from Slovenia, whilst top local band Winter Moods had placed first – being the top voted band in project Europa XXL.
“WDR2, as well as all the musicians involved in this project, will not be in any mood to celebrate and party after this tragic event,” said Andreas Zimmer, Station Manager at WDR2. “Much to our regret, we have thus decided to cancel the Europa XXL show.”
Following the cancellation of the show, WDR2 has invited Winter Moods, as the overall winners of Project Europa XXL, to perform at the Ring Fest in August. Ring Fest is an annual festival, which takes place in Cologne and is attended by 2 million people.
Winter Moods are supported by Vodafone Malta, Peugeot, Air Malta, Hamilton Travel, The Alley, Jamesons and Onvol.
