Winter Moods launched their sixth CD album during a press conference at Hard Rock Bar, at the Valletta Waterfront. The new album titled The Journey, goes on sale from local record shops and online on Friday 6th March. This year also marks Winter Moods’ 30th year together as a band.
The Journey was recorded in 2014 at Temple Studios in Mistra, Malta, and was produced and mixed by David Vella, who has been working with the band since their very first album. The Journey was mastered at Metropolis Studios in London by industry professional John Davis, who recently worked on the Led Zeppelin reissues mastered with Jimmy Page, as well as new albums by Lana Del Rey and Prodigy. The design and art direction of The Journey was done by Ed Dingli.
In conjunction with the launch of The Journey, Winter Moods have also released the third song from the new album, an upbeat track titled ‘Flowers And Cash’. The video for ‘Flowers And Cash’ was filmed by Railway Studios and directed by Matthew James Borg.
Speaking at the press conference, Winter Moods frontman Ivan Grech said, “The past 30 years have been a remarkable journey, we have seen the music scene evolve drastically over the years and we have survived with many stories to tell. The Journey brought us together and challenged us in different ways, and the end product is something that we are very proud of.
“We spent time away, living together and song-writing in different locations for The Journey. We have let go when it comes to the sound and production of some songs, there’s a tinge of the 80′s, as well as some darker atmospheric stuff, all in the midst of the classic Winter Moods sounds.”
The Journey kicked off with rave reviews for Winter Moods’ first two singles. ‘Days Of My Life’ was released in 2013 and ‘Everlasting’ in 2014.
“Every album is as thrilling an experience as the first time. Music is fuel to our lives and despite the ups and downs – of which we have had our fair share – it is what keeps us together as a band of brothers. We have much more coming up this year, and can’t wait to share the music with our audience. The people – their passion and support inspire us.”
The Journey is dedicated to Steve Caruana Smith (Serp), ex-member and one of the founders of Winter Moods who passed away in 2012.
