Winter Moods have been honoured with the Legends’ Award at the Malta Music Awards 2008 for their long-standing career which spans more than two decades. This is the first time that this award was presented to a local artist. The band also won the Best Band Award, the fifth in their career.

In one of the most emotional moments of this year’s MMAs, a snapshot of Winter Moods’ career showing imagery and clips of young boys who now make up the ‘ordinary men’ of the band, detailed how the dreams that were born in a garage in Senglea have now come to fruition.

“Judging by the vociferous and overwhelmingly positive reaction from the audience present at the MMAs to the video showing highlights from Winter Moods’ career, as well as the loud cheers and applause at the announcement of them being given the Legends’ Award, it was obvious that Winter Moods thoroughly deserved this award. They enjoy the support of an enormous following of people who have been clearly touched by their various albums and songs over the years, and this was also clear when the band took to the stage to perform their medley of hits,” said Carlo Borg Bonaci, one of the organisers of the MMAs.

Commenting after the awards Ivan Grech said, “We are honoured to receive the Legends’ Award, as well as the Best Band Award for the fifth time in our career. These awards mean a lot to us, as a token of appreciation for our hard work. We are especially thankful to our fans who follow us through our musical journey, their undying support and encouragement urge us to continue our work on new musical projects.”

The MMAs will be shown on TVM this Thursday 4th December at 8:40pm.

Last week Winter Moods released a video of their Summer hit song ‘Hang On To Your Smile’, which was shot during the band’s mega concert held at the Valletta Waterfront in July of this year. The video, which was filmed by Where’s Everybody and directed by Mark Vassallo, captures the band’s electric performance as well as the crowd’s energy and enthusiasm which made Winter Moods’ night a major event in Maltese music history.

Winter Moods are now also nominated for Best Band and Best Song (Hang On To Your Smile) at the Bay Music Awards 2008. Voting closes on Saturday 6th December.
