Band performing live on Sunday 5th at Exotique, Baystreet
Top local band Winter Moods have launched their fourth CD album during a press conference held today at Henry J Bean’s, St Julians. Winter Moods’ new album titled ˜Ordinary Men’ will be available for sale on Sunday 5th November from Exotique, Baystreet, and from all record shops as from Monday 6th November.
˜Ordinary Men’ includes a blend of new sounds as already evident in ˜Lonely Vegas’, the first track released from this album. ˜Lonely Vegas’ reached the top of the music charts on 89.7 Bay’s top 40, making Winter Moods the only local band to have reached the number one spot twice in this chart, the previous time was with ˜Come To You’ in February 2003.
œI think this album sounds just like Winter Moods, said Ivan Grech, frontman of the band, during the press conference. œWe have also included some interesting experiments in different genres, not traditionally associated with the band.
˜Ordinary Men’ was recorded at Temple Studios, Mistra and was produced, engineered and mixed by David Vella, who also worked on the band’s previous CD albums.
œThis year we celebrate twenty years together, making us most probably the oldest rock band on the local music scene, said Ivan with a smile.
Over the years Winter Moods have garnered a number of local awards including three Best Band awards as well as the Best CD Album award during the Malta Music Awards. Recently Winter Moods were also awarded the Icon award and the Best Song of all time award for ˜Everyday Song’ during the Bay Music Awards. During the Gozo Music Awards held in August of this year, the band was presented with the Best Selling local artist award by Exotique.
The band also announced that guitarist Steve Caruana Smith, one of the founders of Winter Moods, left the band due to work and family commitments. Steve recorded ˜Ordinary Men’ with the other band members.
œWe miss him very much, said Ivan. œWe shared a brotherhood together, and we would like to thank him for his contribution over the years. Brothers for ever!
Also present at the press conference were Norman Hamilton from Hamilton Travel, Franco Degabriele from Melita Cable and Hatem Dowidar from Vodafone Malta Limited, who are Winter Moods’ main sponsors.
˜Lonely Vegas’ as well as other popular Winter Moods songs from previous albums are now available to Vodafone 3G customers as full-track music downloads. ˜Sarah’, ˜Everyday Song’, ˜Come to You’, ˜Closer’ as well as a selection of the band’s top hits can now be downloaded onto one’s 3G mobile phone which can then be used as a music player.
