One lucky band will be given the opportunity of a lifetime to perform together with Malta’s most popular band as Winter Moods and Bay Radio have kicked off a nationwide hunt for a supporting band for their 2010 summer concert. Details of the competition, were launched at a press conference held today by Winter Moods frontman Ivan Grech, Bay Radio Station Manager Mr Victor Formosa and Dr. Nigel Camilleri on behalf of NnG Promotions, who are organising the event.
The competition is open to all new and unsigned Maltese bands who have not yet released any recorded material on radio, thus making it a truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for those local bands who are still looking for their big break. Applications forms are available from Bay Radio and must be accompanied by a demo of their music. Ten entries will be short-listed from all the entries and the lucky winning band will be announced shortly after and invited to perform a total of three songs, including their original material, live during the Winter Moods concert on the 28th July at The Granaries in Floriana.
“The Maltese music scene is very important to us as a band and we have always done our best to support other bands which are still cutting their teeth in the scene. Winter Moods have always remained true to their roots and this is why we decided to launch this competition, to give this unique opportunity to new bands to put their music out there. This is a fantastic chance for new bands to break into the scene and we are very happy to offer our support to Maltese talent,” said Ivan Grech, frontman for Winter Moods.
Winter Moods are synonymous with the music scene in Malta and are well-known for playing to some of the biggest audiences on the island. Over the years their music evolved into some of the most loved melodies on the island and their discography includes classic hits such as Marigold, Everyday Song, Come To You, Sarah and many others.
The band has also etched its name in Maltese music history during a memorable performance at the Valletta Waterfront in 2008. The concert, which was also organised by NnG Promotions, attracted a record-breaking crowd of over 7500 people. This year, Winter Moods are celebrating their 25th anniversary and have recently launched their 5th CD album, titled Argento. Argento includes the two hit singles My Neverland and Last To Know, which have already topped the Maltese charts.
“89.7Bay and Winter Moods go a long way together and as soon as Ivan mentioned the possibility of launching a search for a supporting act to their July 28th concert, I had no hesitation in organizing a competition to find the lucky band,” said Victor Formosa, Station Manager of 89.7Bay. “Bay Radio has been and will always be the window for local music talent. We continually playlist locally originated music and the annual Bay Music Awards is the culmination of all that goes on during the year in the local music scene. Winter Moods ‘My Neverland’ is currently in Bay’s Top 40 as was their previous hit ‘Last to Know’.”
“Tickets for the concert start from €15 and are available from all Vodafone, Agenda and Exotique outlets or from www.nngpromotions.com. There is also a limited time offer of two tickets for the price of one offer that is also available to all Vodafone subscribers from Vodafone outlets until Tuesday 15th June 2010,” said Mr. Nigel Camilleri for NnG Promotions.
The concert is supported by Vodafone. Over the recent years, NnG Promotions have established themselves as the leading promoters of large scale concerts involving top international artists including Joseph Calleja, Ronan Keating, Roger Waters, Bryan Adams, Sting, Elton John, Eros Ramazzotti, Duran Duran, Michael Bolton, Tom Jones, Abba – The Show and Laura Pausini.
